Denied at Application
Don't be discouraged. You have 60 days to appeal. The next step is to file a Request for Reconsideration. A Reconsideration determination takes place in the same office where your initial denial occurred. Your case will be assigned to a new disability examiner. Any new medical evidence, in addition to arguments presented by your representative, will be considered before a new decision is rendered. The Disability Determination Service (DDS) may request updated reporting from your doctor(s) or they may schedule a consulting exam. Favorable Reconsideration determinations occur 15-22% of the time. A decision generally takes 2-5 months. Be sure to keep your representative informed of any changes in your medical condition while your case is pending at Reconsideration. If you receive a Reconsideration denial, the next step will be to file a Request for Hearing.
